The Good Neighbour Awards recognize Edmontonians who make a difference in the lives of the people in their neighbourhood. It can be anything from helping an individual neighbour to motivating the neighbourhood to address a local issue or hosting a neighbourhood event. Good neighbours help build connections between people. That creates a sense of community and leads to safer neighbourhoods.
Snow Angels adopt the sidewalks of senior or persons with disabilities in winter and keep them clear of snow and ice. They watch for people in their neighbourhoods who could use help shovelling their sidewalks and driveways and ask if they can lend a hand.

The Sexual Exploitation Week of Awareness in Edmonton runs March 7-11, 2011.

What: Amarjeet will proclaim the week on behalf of Mayor Mandel and City Council. Sexual exploitation is taking selfish or unfair advantage of any person for sexual purposes or gain. It happens in Edmonton, and it affects us all. The events during the week of awareness recognize that there are many persons -- children and adults, men and women and trans-identified people -- who experience sexual exploitation. The events focus on human trafficking; sexual exploitation and the law; sexual minority groups; cultural community groups; and the Prostitution Offender Program.
The events are organized by the Sexual Exploitation Working Group of Edmonton, a collaboration of REACH Edmonton, City of Edmonton Community Services and community organizations.
