SE LRT plans approved by Council

Today Council approved the Southeast LRT plan. This is a major step forward—and one that I am particularly excited about, since my first major proposal as a new Councillor in 2007 was for the LRT route to Mill Woods. When the City did a survey two years ago to gauge residents’ interest, 85% of respondents agreed that LRT development is critical for sustainable, continued growth in Edmonton.

The approved route allows for travel from Mill Woods to downtown in 20-25 minutes. Future daily boardings are projected at 46,000. And while the route does not run directly through Ward 12, bus service and southside park-&-ride will connect residents to the city via Mill Woods Town Centre, Wagner School, Bonnie Doon Mall—and beyond, as the route joins up with the proposed West LRT, and connects near Churchill Station to existing LRT.

Design priorities included integration with transit, pedestrian and cyclist connections; elimination of barriers, gates and bells where feasible; and integration with Council’s vision of urban-style, at-grade LRT.

Property assessment

Property assessment notices were mailed out on January 4, and I want to provide some information based on questions I've received from residents.
